The Jubilee Course was originally opened in 1897 for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and was designed for ladies and children. In 1988, Donald Steele redesigned the Jubilee Course and it is now considered the toughest of St Andrews Championship Courses.
The course is situated on a long, narrow links course wedged between the New Course and St Andrews Bay. Some holes meander through low sand dunes. There are no double greens or shared fairways, but the same round trip approach is still used. The Jubilee Course has high tees and offers unparalleled views of St Andrews Bay to the east and the flags flying on other St Andrews courses to the west.
It is fair to say that the Jubilee Course was just an ordinary course before Donald Steele took over, but now it is colorful, unique and has many excellent par 3 holes. As a result, the Jubilee Course has hosted many important amateur championships since Steele's renovation.
