Napier Golf Club is the oldest golf club in the Hawke's Bay region. The club opened in 1896 and has just celebrated 125 years of golf. It has hosted many New Zealand and inter-provincial championships over the years and hosted the first New Zealand Open in 1907.
The course is centrally located at 1215 Korokipo Road and is an easy walkable, tree-lined 18-hole championship course that is a challenge for beginners and low handicap players.
The course itself is a traditional New Zealand tree-lined park-style layout, bisected by a road that was once a par 3 before it became State Highway 50. The course stretches 6587 yards (6023 meters) and features some very challenging par 4 holes. Club professionals believe that while the 3rd hole (called "The Ridge") is the most famous, the 435-yard (398-meter) dogleg left 13th hole is probably the most difficult to tackle due to its out-of-bounds area on the right and its raised green.
In addition to the inaugural New Zealand Open, the course has hosted many New Zealand and inter-provincial championships, such as the New Zealand Amateur Championship (Men's and Women's), the Freyberg Rose Bowl Championship and the Inter-Provincial Championship.
