Taupo Golf Club Centennial Course

The Club is situated on the shores of Lake Taupo, which lies in the heart of the volcanic Central Plateau. It is the starting point for access to Tongariro National Park and home to one of the world's premier trails, the Tongariro Alpine Trail.

The club officially opened in 1931, initially using the 9-hole course as a competition golf course, which is now part of the club's second largest course, Tauhara. Due to the large number of visitors, the Tauhara course was expanded to 18 holes in 1954. The town expanded further as tourism, agriculture and other industries boomed, and the new Centennial Course was completed in 1973 (three years after its more famous neighbour Wairakei).

Designed by two-time New Zealand PGA Champion Ernie Southerden, the Centennial is a fine example of a classic New Zealand inland course, set in an area of geothermal activity prevalent in the region. Most of the holes (1-15) wind through greens that are not as tree-lined as many of New Zealand's club courses, with the occasional wilderness conversion adding to the fun. 16 and 17 skirt some geothermal wasteland before finishing with a challenging short hole.

The Centenary Course has hosted the New Zealand Amateur Championship twice, in 1986 and 2004.
