Located to the west of the Old, New and Jubilee Courses, and to the north of the Strathtram and Balgove Courses, the par 70 Eden Course is an excellent venue for enjoying a round of golf in St Andrews.
Designed by Harry Colt in 1914, the Eden Course retains many of his signature features - more strategic than challenging - not least its greens, which set the benchmark for modern putting surface design. Colt designed the undulating greens to facilitate good drainage, and the putting surface at Eden is said to be one of the most undulating of any course at St Andrews Links Trust.
The toughest hole on the course is the 432-yard, par-4 17th, which runs along the curves of an old railway line, with an out-of-bounds area to the right of the fairway. The tee line is the furthest visible bunker. The green is relatively deep, but there is not much space between the protective bunker on the left and the out-of-bounds area on the right.
Another benefit of playing the Eden Course is the use of the new Eden and Strathallan Clubhouse, which offers a quiet break from the crowds that flock to the neighbouring clubs to play the Old, New and Jubilee Courses.
