Mona Vale Golf Club

The club officially opened in 1927, initially constructing a 9-hole course by volunteers and using a marquee as a clubhouse. The club then relocated a nearby old ambulance station into temporary accommodation for members to meet before and after their rounds of golf. The local council decided to drain the marshland in the middle of the existing site and the club agreed to provide financial assistance if it could obtain a lease on the land. The Salvation Army also agreed to sell some of the land on the south side of the marsh, but the deal fell through due to a deed restricting play at weekends.

The nine-hole course reopened in 1947, and more land was subsequently acquired in the late 1950s to expand the layout to 18 holes. Finally, in August 1960, a new 18-hole course was opened. The following year, a clubhouse fire destroyed most of the club's records, but members rallied together and by the end of 1963, things were back to normal.
