Leongatha Golf Club

Featuring Vern Morcom's classic design, the club has long been a little-known treasure in Victoria's South Gippsland region.

The course is beautifully laid out on a variety of terrain, from hilly to gently sloping, with wide Santa Ana sofa fairways flanked by natural bushland. The greens also surprise visiting golfers. They are beautifully maintained and finely contoured.

Their excellent green structures have firm surfaces and varied internal contours, and one third of the greens are free of bunkers. The distances on the par 1s and par 2s are varied. The designer uses a tee shot that is not far enough to create a sharp dogleg, which is evident on holes No. 2, No. 5, No. 15 and No. 17. A gentle backswing is the only sensible option given the lushness of the surrounding forest.
