Founded in 1926, the club's original 9-hole course was situated on the banks of the Molongo River near Acton, and in 1963, the damming of the Molongo River to create Lake Burley Griffin forced the club to relocate to its current site on the outskirts of Yarralongla. Known as the Augusta of Australia because of its hilly, pine-lined landscape, the course in fact bears little resemblance to Augusta. The fairways are narrow and lined with long grass, which also surrounds the greens.
All of the greens are bunkered at 6-8 feet with long grass areas between the bunkers and the greens. The greens are huge, many of them two-tiered, and these greens have some of the largest greens in the country. The teeing areas are also large, with a clear view of the fairway bunkers where shots are being played. There are no hidden obstacles, but tee shot accuracy is crucial to a good score.
